An adventure into digital scrapbooking

So I used to be a digital scrapbook snob.
I used to think that it was a cheat's way of scrapbooking.
I used to think nothing could compare with getting your hands messy.

Well things have changed and uni has marched in with a vengeance and you know what? Yeah getting my hands messy is great but not when you have 10 minutes at a time to do so.

The other day I sat down and did a few internet searches. I searched for digital bits and bobs for free. I found so much to make me excited that I did a quick whoop of joy!

Because you know what, I love designing, I love playing with fonts and I really enjoy photoshop. I also miss recording my stories on a scrapbook page.

So yep, it may not be as tactile and yep it is fully digital but I had so much fun losing myself in a story again, in colour and text.

I don't know if this page "is" digital scrapbooking. But for me it works just fine. I don't need or want my pages online to look like my pages in real life. I don't really like those digital elements that try and replicate brads or string. For me being digital is different and I am so cool with that.

I had fun making again. I miss scrapbooking properly but this does fill the gap and the best part my friends...it was free!

Supplies: Persnickity prints, The Lily Pad, Two peas

Does anyone else know good online sights for digital supplies?

Hi Abi,
I think your page looks great. I have been doing a little research into the Digi world myself these days mainly 'cause of my move to the USA and my stuff is still en route. There is a lot of free stuff out there but most of it seems to be small time stuff. However, I did discover a site that has loads of kits and there is a link on my page here http://thevuefromhere.blogspot.com/2012/10/digi-scrap-kits-free.html
I also find that Jessica Spragues '1 buck wednesday' is always a pretty decent sale. Finally, My Memories Studio are looking for affiliate blogers to share the product on their blogs and in exchange they will give you the suite for free. The suite has kits pre-loaded but will also access what you already have. Sorry for the long comment.

Abi love your page. A couple of places I pick up free digi supplies is Designer digitals - you have to register and then have access to regular free pieces by Katie Pertiet - see example here http://katiepertiet.typepad.com/designerdigitals_weblog/2012/11/new-digital-download-freebies.html

and if you sign up for the Design House Digital newsletter there are free downloads each month. They have some freebies on their site too http://www.designhousedigital.com/kit-types/freebies

one thing I like about using these 2 sites is that all the free stuff is from experienced designers so the quality is good.

and another tip - once I became confident recolouring items I was able to do much more with just a few items I really liked

Great page, Abi - it's very 'you', even though, as you say, it isn't an attempt to recreate digitally what you'd do with paper :)

Just do a search on free digital embellishments and they all come up. I ahve just started digital too and I ahve so much free it is amazing. My memories is good, they ahve so much free, also scrap girls. My memories have a blog and that will lead you to a whole heap of designers who ahve things free on their blogs and alos their FB pages. Beware as it is adictive and will suck you in for more than 10 mins. You page by the way is super cute and just perfect, well done

Working digitally seems to be a perfect match for a university student. I've become a fan of hybrid and just bought some items at the Digital Designs sale for my Christmas Journal. Several years ago, I found LOTS of free digital materials online, but I still haven't found a way to organize them all so I know what I have. I think a Google search (and also the suggestion above to register at Designer Digitals) will provide you with more than you know what to do with!
